In April this year, as a LINC Church Sisterhood, 65? girls from our church packed their bags and made their way to Cape Town for the annual Hillsong Sisterhood, Colour Conference and you will never guess but I got to be one of them!
I personally not only prayed the the opportunity to be apart of Colour but I was blessed by courageous women in our community and LINC Church to go. Thats just such a picture of the heart behind the Colour story. It was an incredible experience for me personally that I was so encouraged to share 5 Things I learnt with you.
- STAY THE PATH:
Bobby Houston has pioneered this incredible Sisterhood story, by gathering women world wide to equip and mobilise girls to do life together with strength and wholeness. You only have to come to colour conference once to know that there is something of Gods favour over the growth and strength of this story. Recently Bobby Houston published a book called; Stay the path is about her walk through this journey and encouraging us to stand tall in whatever your position of life may be and continue to outwork what you have already begun. I learnt that not only need to choose to stay the path in my calling, but Colour conference is something that I will always choose to be apart of my path. Why? because there is power in staying this path. Colour allows us as women to take time to stop and be still so we can hear what God is saying to us personally. It allows us time to be reminded who we are in our path because its not about what we do in the path but who were are. Our journey is as important as our destination.
2. IM IN THE HOOD: Yes I am! This sisterhood we call ourselves simply reminds us that we are so much better together. As soon as I arrived at Colour I was so inspired by the thousands of diverse women who chose to come and be apart of this story. It amazed me how personally welcomed I was with open arms and generosity. There was a sense of close community and encouragement that was shared with women from all walks of life. I came home with a renewed spirit that no matter the circumstance I may find my self in, I can stand firm knowing I am loved by a heavenly father and my sisters stand beside me. This is the sisterhood.
3. IM NOT NORMAL
John Grey was one of our inspiring Colour speakers this year. John spoke so much life and release into our lives as women. He reminded us that we are not normal. There is nothing normal about our God. NORMAL IS OVER RATED. We are women who are called for such a time as this, to rise in “dignity and strength” and release ourselves from the expectation society places on us as women. We need to unearth the unique gold God has placed within us. We need to remind ourselves daily of our value before the world tells us our value and walk in the freedom that is ours.
4. CHOOSE EMPATHY
“Empathy can be defines as “the ability to see something in others regardless of who we are.”
Colour inspired me to CHOOSE empathy in life for those around me. I realised then that this is something we have to teach ourselves through Gods grace for all of humanity. We are all unique and deserve the right to be empowered and respected regardless of our differences and we get to play a part in build this story by recognising the value in others and extending our hand to those around us. We as women are called to step forward in a humbled confidence to lead people in their shoes and not their faces. We as women should represent and reproduce who we are and what we believe.
5. “PLUNGE INTO THE PROMISE, COME UP STRONGER.” – LUCINDA DOOLEY.
If your thinking about coming to Colour next year, don’t think – Just go!
Grab your girl friends and choose to take a leap into the promise God has for you because you will come up stronger as a women, wife, mother and friend on your return. In Genesis, Eve reminds us of Gods story for our lives as women. We are reminded that God has made us for purpose in this world. We are apart of his will, which is “good and pleasing and perfect.” (Romans 12:2)
So come on ladies, spoil yourself and buy your ticket for colour 2018. You deserve this.
